The Webgame Cave

A cave looms before you. [ENTER] [IGNORE]

Welcome to the webgame cave, a place where I list and reccomend some brilliant games you can play online for free! We’ve got some clickers, incrementals (like Idle Ants), text adventures, platformers, and many more! Enjoy!

A Dark Room

Thumnail of A Dark Room

This game is one of the most incredible games I’ve ever seen. It looks simple at first, and the early gameplay is carefully and deliberately paced, but eventually it unfolds a bit more and really immerses you in the world. Totally worth the time you spend on it.

You can play it for free online, read about it on Wikipedia, listen to its soundtrack (contributed to the game by Orsi), and be aware of spoilers on its Wiki. Here are some reddit threads with people discussing the game: 1, 2, and 3.

The Extra Mile

There’s also a mobile version made by Amir Rajan which is available for iOS, Android and Nintendo Switch. It’s a bit different, so I’d reccommend playing the browser one first. Amir also made a prequel game called The Ensign

Gridland

Thumnail of A Dark Room

From the same creator as A Dark Room, a unique and charming RPG take on the “Match 3” game concept, except rather than an advert-filled mobile game, you build little pixel buildings to survive. However, when night falls, all the resources of. the board change, some to helpful equipment, others to dangerous monsters, changing the way you play completely. If you keep playing, you might just be surprised…

You can play it for free online, watch its epic trailer, listen to its soundtrack (made by Vince Nitro), and learn tips and tricks on some reddit threads with people discussing the game: 1,2,3, and 4.

The Extra Mile

A remastered version of the game was made for mobile. You can see it’s trailer here, and get it on iOS and Android.

Spaceplan

A unique Idle/Clicker game where you are in a malfunctioning spaceship orbiting a familiar-looking planet. Together with a helpful AI, you try to figure things out by building a power-generation empire of… potatoes? A fun game with smooth UI and funny dialogue, worth the AFKing. You can play it for free online and listen to its music made by Logan Gabriel.

The Extra Mile

The game was expanded into a larger game and put on Steam. If you’re willing to pay, and you like clicker games like this, it could be for you! Visit the website for more info.

Material Warrior

A fun emoji-based game with elements of idle and incremental games that sees you go from punching rats to slaughtering transdimensional bosses with infinity weapons. It was designed by gamehelp16, a fan of A Dark Room and someone who has also made several other games. You start off as a smiley face in an unexplored forest with a friendly penguin who introduces you. You fight various animals and gain gold to purchase upgrades that allow you to fight stronger animals, and there are many different upgrades and things you need to do to be strong enought to fight the even more powerful creatures.

The game has a unique charm to it, and is well worth a playthrough, so visit it online. It has a largely inactive subreddit, and the code is all available on GitHub. There isn’t really much of an extra mile for this game, but I recommend checking out gamehelp16’s other creations, several of which are also inspired by A Dark Room and similar games like Candy Box. (By the way, the console is really easy to use in this game, for example Player.move(x,y) will teleport you.)

Shark Game

This variably-named game about sharks is another charming idle game with cute graphics and a pseudo-story somewhere in there. You are a shark in a strange blue sea, and after hunting some fish and gathering some friends, you can contstruct a great empire of workers, machines and scientists. However, you can cross through the mysterious gateway you discover to find a different world, not quite home, and start once more with the ethereal essence you gained to help you.

It was originally designed by Cirrial in 3 days for Seamergency 2014, the charity even to raise money for efforts to save sharks and manta rays in the wild. Cirrial dropped development of the game in 2015, and as of 2020, it was picked up by spencers145. While it can get a bit complicated, you can find all the versions of the game on the hub page, which consist of:

There is a discord server and a subreddit if you’re interested.
